Australian loudspeaker specialist Pitt & Giblin has announced Flare, the company’s smallest offering which, in accordance with the brand’s philosophies, employs waveguide and active/DSP technologies.
Pitt & Giblin’s new Flare is a two-way active loudspeaker system baring the company’s trademark constant directivity, solid cast bronze circular waveguide to assist the 25 mm (1 inch) polymer broad bandwidth compression driver. The compression tweeter is supported by a 200 mm (8 inch) paper cone driver featuring a powerful neodymium motor system. The 200 mm driver is loaded by a radiused reflex port (minimises air pressure ‘chuffing’) on Flare’s rear panel.
As Pitt & Giblin states, “By using a large waveguide, the consistency of level across the frequency spectrum can be controlled to offer a smoother tonality in room and yields an accurate and more enveloping listening experience regardless of the music choice.”
Each Flare cabinet incorporates a “Pascal-powered” 250 watts amplifier and Digital Signal Processing technology which accounts for, and has been employed in, the design of the waveguide flare, the drivers, and the cabinet architecture. There are no passive crossover components in Flare. The signal is “Bi-amplified and actively crossed over in the digital domain” while Flare is capable of accepting both analogue (XLR balanced/RCA unbalanced) and digital S/PDIF input signals. The units feature auto-sensing signal and auto on/off capabilities.
Pitt & Giblin specifies Flare as having a frequency response from 36 Hz to 25 kHz within a tight +/- 1.5dB window. Low frequency extension is stated as 28 Hz at -10dB. The crossover point is given as 900 Hz.
The solid and stiff, cabinet architecture is realised via CNC-cut, AA-grade, void-free birch plywood. Pitt & Giblin offers a variety of veneers including specialty finishes.
