Monitor Audio takes a clean slate approach to the redesign of the entire six-model line of the highly regarded Gold Series loudspeakers, now evolved to '6G' iteration.
The Monitor Audio Gold Series 6G introduces new technologies and engineering to the company’s three-decade running Gold Series. Crucially, the Gold Series 6G presents new driver technology in the newly engineered ‘Hexagonal Diaphragm Technology’ (HDT) applied to the metal cones across the line. Said line includes two floorstanding speakers (the top-of-the-line Gold 500 6G and the Gold 300 6G), two standmounts (Gold 100 6G and Gold 50 6G), an on-wall speaker (Gold On-Wall 6G), and a centre channel speaker (Gold C250 6G). Monitor Audio’s ST-2 dedicated stand is available for the standmount speakers.
HDT is a derivative of the remarkable driver technology introduced in the company’s Hyphn and Platinum flagship loudspeakers. The HDT cones are a sandwich design which embeds a Nomex honeycomb layer between aluminium and carbon fibre layers. HDT’s hexagonal diaphragm is said to “disrupt symmetries”, shifting the cone break-up frequency upwards by a stated 10% when compared with Monitor Audio’s previous RST II diaphragm. HDT cones also incorporate Monitor Audio’s well-established and highly engineered C-CAM technology.
The entire Gold Series 6G range employs HDT diaphragms across a new 75 mm (3 inches) midrange driver, a 150 mm (6 inches) mid-bass driver, and a powerful 200 mm (8 inches) woofer. The new tweeter is a reworked version of Monitor Audio’s Micro Pleated Diaphragm (MPD) foil driver which is said to deliver exceptional levels of detail, clarity and precision. The MPD III is now the 3rd generation of the driver. The new drivers have been mated to re-engineered and carefully voiced crossover networks featuring high quality components.
The Gold Series 6G speaker cabinets have been constructed with strategically located bracing in order to provide excellent stiffness and overall solidity. In the case of the 500 6G and 100 6G, the design-inherent trim on the top panel provides enhanced dispersion characteristics (improved spatial imaging) by allowing the MPD III driver to be mounted higher up the front baffle. A new beautiful cabinet finish is offered by way of the man-made ebony veneer, which is said to mirror the beauty of natural ebony but, of course, results in a reduced and sustainable production footprint.
The new Monitor Audio Gold Series 6G speaker line is available in High-Gloss Black, Satin White, and Ebony veneer. Monitor Audio speakers are distributed in Australia by Interdyn and can be auditioned around the country via specialist audio dealers. The Gold Series 6G is due to land in Australia in early September 2024.
