First shown at the recent Hong Kong High-End Audio Visual Show 2023, the new D3 Network Player builds on Lumin’s stable of highly acclaimed digital music handling sources.
Lumin has updated the popular D3 with its latest digital processing architectures which are said to provide improved “resampling flexibility” while potentially enhancing the network player’s musical performance when judged against the popular D1 and D2 previous generations.
The digital engine employs the highly regarded Sabre ES9028PRO digital-to-analogue conversion system from ESS Technology tied to Lumin X1-derived technologies. There’s also an on-board buffer claimed to provide ultra-low noise and high dynamic range while the unit employs “audio grade” output capacitors. Lumin states utilising only 25% of the digital processor/CPU processing power, something that would allow plenty of headroom in terms of processing abilities while also providing adequate resources for future upgrades. The company has hinted at bringing in DSP and EQ features in future firmware developments.
Resolution powers of the D3 stretch to upsampling PCM at 32-bit/384 kHz (24-bit/192 kHz native) and DSD256. The D3 is Roon Ready, Tidal Connect and Airplay 2 compatible while also capable of streaming Tidal, Qobuz, Spotify and much more. As per other Lumin products, the company has employed the very refined Leedh Processing lossless volume control technology.
Connectivity includes RCA unbalanced (3Vrms) and balanced XLR (6Vrms). There’s, of course, an RJ45 socket (1000Base-T), USB-A for hard drive storage, thumb drive, etc. Lumin offers its own bespoke free app which features comprehensive data (including high-resolution artwork, multiple playlists, etc.) while natively supporting Tidal Qobuz, MQA and more. The D3 now sports a full aluminium enclosure featuring a thick brushed aluminium front panel which houses a large display screen. The D3 is available in “Raw” anodised silver and black anodised finishes.
The new Lumin D3 will be available in Australia from the 25th of August 2023 via importer Audio Magic’s established country-wide specialist dealer network.
