South Africa’s specialist Vivid Audio has announced upgraded versions of its successful Giya ‘G’ series loudspeakers that established the brand as a high-end design and engineering powerhouse.

The new Giya Cu (Cu is the periodic table abbreviation for copper) loudspeakers, which span from the entry point G4 Cu, through to the mid-points G3 Cu and G2 CU and onto the flagship G1S Cu (‘S’ for Spirit) are an evolution of the acclaimed original Giya line, now featuring a number of important enhancements. The 4-way, five driver configuration and layout remain the same across the line, with the variations primarily being driver and cabinet size.

The range incorporates re-engineered proprietary drivers built in-house, featuring technologies derived from the company’s flagship Moya loudspeakers. The upper and lower midrange drivers’ ‘Super Flux’ magnet system now includes copper-caps in order to reduce 2nd and 3rd order harmonic distortion. The company states its engineers, led by Laurence Dickie, achieved a substantial 20dB reduction in 3rd order harmonic distortion, with a claim that this has resulted in “… not only a more palpable soundstage and overall cleaner midrange, but also a subjective improvement in the bass response”. The new drivers presented an opportunity to further refine the Giya Cu crossover networks.

Improvements have been made to the Giya speakers’ enclosures and finish which are handcrafted in Durban, South Africa. The Giya Cu line’s trademark stressed skin glass and carbon fibre sandwich composite cabinet technology and the aesthetic design remain the same, but the cabinets’ form has been “modernised”. The tapered tube technology, which provides distortion reduction on the rear of the drivers, is now incorporated within the cabinetry by way of “re-entrant absorbers”, a design element which makes the line look more elegant. The cabinets are also said to be lighter, stiffer and overall smoother.

Vivid Audio’s range of key proprietary technologies, such as the tweeter’s ‘Catenary Dome’ profile, aerodynamically enhanced reaction-cancelling ports, and much more, have all been carried through to the Giya Cu line.

The Giya Cu entire range is available in a wide palette of colours, including the currently trendy copper tone as one of the options. The new Vivid Audio Giya Cu loudspeakers are available in Australia via importer Avation.
