Inspired by the company’s Titan amplifier powerhouse, a literal giant, Musical Fidelity has updated its core amplifier model line-up with the new M5xi and M6xi integrated amps.
In addition to its Titan-influenced revisions, the new M5xi features a new amplifier topology featuring a number of enhancements including a low distortion Darlington output stage, new power supplies, a new Burr-Brown stepped attenuator, a revised circuit and PCB layout that minimises the need for feedback corrections, and much more.
The Mx5i is rated at 140 watts per channel into 8 ohms and climbs to 210 watts into 4 ohms of continuous power from 20 Hz to 20 kHz at 0.09% THD. The amplifier’s configuration is based around two independent monoblock amplifiers and a dedicated preamplifier within the one chassis. There are a large metal case-encapsulated toroidal transformer and a solid capacitor bank forming the core of the power supply while sensitive circuitry has been shielded. The topology is said to render extremely low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).

Connectivity includes four line inputs via unbalanced RCA (one is configurable as a home theatre bypass), Line Out and Pre-Out unbalanced RCA, and an improved Moving Magnet (MM) and Moving Coil (MC) phono stage (RCA). Separate dedicated circuit boards and linear power supplies are used for the digital inputs which include a USB-C asynchronous input (24-bits/192 kHz resolution), optical Toslink, S/PDIF coaxial, and HDMI eARC for TV and home theatre integration.
In an uncommon feature, the M5xi includes an isolated USB-A 5 volt/2 amp power output that allows direct power supply to streamers. This connectivity option is said to provide an upgrade in the sonic performance of the streaming source. The M5xi now features an RS-232 interface port, 12 volt mini-jack triggers, and high quality speaker binding posts.

The M6xi ups the power ante with 210 watts into 8 ohms and 300 watts into 4 ohms continuous power from 20 Hz to 20 kHz at 0.09% THD. The toroidal transformer is “oversized” while the capacitor bank has also been increased. The extra power and larger power supply now sees a large heatsink system flanking the superbly machined chassis.
The connectivity remains similar to the M5xi but now includes a balanced XLR input. As per the M5xi, the Moving Magnet and Moving Coil phono stage offers 40 dB and 60 dB of gain and an input impedance of 50 kohms and 1 kohm for MM and MC respectively via an RIAA design. Both amplifiers are supplied with a newly designed full-function remote control.
The Musical Fidelity M5xi and M6xi integrated amplifiers are expected to arrive in Australia by the end of Q2 2026.
